The world’s most expensive coffee is made from animal poop!

by Staff writer

Kopi Luwak, the world’s most expensive coffee has a bizarre secret:

It is made from coffee cherries that have been eaten, digested and excreted by a wild animal called civet cat.

The coffee poop is collected by farmers and sold to coffee makers to prepare for human consumption.

While a cup of ordinary coffee could sell for $2 to $5 in shops, kopi luwak could go for as high $50 to $100!

Kobi luwak has become so priced and sought-after that fakes are being made.

Only coffee beans that have passed through the digestive tract of a wild-living and non-caged civet cat (a long-tailed catlike creature) are certified as “authentic.”

But as civet coffee has gained popularity, more wild civets are being captured and confined to cages on coffee plantations.

These animals are often kept in cramped, unsanitary cages and fed a restricted diet of only coffee cherries.

Because there’s really no way to tell whether a bag of kopi luwak was made from wild or caged civets, experts are already calling for the boycott of the product altogether.

Also, no reliable evidence exists to confirm that kopi luwak is actually better than the regular coffee.

Although the civets’ digestive process does make the coffee smoother, it also removes the good acids and flavor that characterize a normal cup of coffee.
