This Nigerian man’s BIG cassava is causing commotion online

by Staff writer

An anonymous Nigerian farmer has gotten many people talking when he flaunted the big cassava tuber he harvested from his farm.

Cassava farming is very common in Nigeria. The root crop is cultivated for both subsistence and commercial purposes.

Cassava tubers are very high in demand and can weigh up to 4.0 kg, depending on the variety and farming conditions.

Cassava is the raw material for producing ‘garri’ — one of Nigeria’s most-cherished staple.

The tubers mature between 8 to 12 months after planting and some varieties have been known to do better than others.

Improved cassava varieties can easily be gotten at local government offices of each state, or from the IITA office.

IITA is an African-based international research institute established in 1967.
