6 places in Nigeria UK citizens are advised not to travel to in 2018

According to UK government’s advice on foreign travel for the year 2018, UK citizens are warned not to visit the following places in Nigeria:

1. Borno State


2. Yobe State

3. Adamawa State

4. Gombe State

5. Riverine areas of Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States and

6. Areas within 20km of the border with Niger in Zamfara State.

Travellers are also asked to be wary of visiting the following Nigerian states:

a. Bauchi State

b. Zamfara State

c. Kano State

d. Kaduna State

e. Jigawa State

f. Katsina State

g. Kogi State

h. Areas within 20km of the border with Niger in Sokoto and Kebbi States

i. Non-riverine areas of Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers State and

j. Abia State

“Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Nigeria and most attacks occur in the north east, particularly in Borno,Yobe, Adamawa and Gombe States,” the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) wrote on its website.

“There’s a high threat of kidnap throughout Nigeria,” the agency added, further advising intending travelers to avoid “places where crowds gather, including religious gatherings and places of worship, markets, shopping malls, hotels, bars, restaurants, transport hubs and camps for displaced people.”

According to the agency, all major towns and cities in Northern Nigeria are risky, except Abuja.
